Fire Extinquishers

Fire Extinguishers

As with our sprinkler and other suppression systems, we offer a full range of services for fire extinguishers.

System Design

Fire extinguishers play a vital role in a fire suppression plan and system design. Fire protection is not simply a matter of satisfying specific fire code requirements. It is critical to have the correct type and number of fire extinguishers installed in the correct locations. This makes a significant difference in protecting life and property. Let our team help you determine if your system is set up correctly.

Sales

Let Petcosky Fire Protection help you select and purchase the appropriate extinguishers for your fire suppression system. There are many sizes and classes of extinguishers. Don’t fall for companies looking to sell you the only brand or size of extinguisher they have in stock. Let our team help you find the right extinguisher for the right price.

Installation and Repairs

Changes in facilities are common. Remodeling of offices or shops, new equipment or appliances, or other modifications to the physical layout may require changes to your fire suppression system. Allow us to install the system you need, keeping you safe and compliant with fire codes and regulations. It’s about having the right extinguisher in the right place when you need it!

Inspection

The importance of annual inspections and servicing of your fire extinguishers cannot be overstated. Our technicians are trained specifically to ensure that your extinguishers are functioning properly should you ever need them. The process might seem tedious and unimportant, but there can be no substitute for a properly maintained and operated fire extinguisher. This is a job that should be handled by professionals to ensure that your employees and your property are fully protected.

Recharging

Once a fire extinguisher has been used, it must be recharged immediately so it can be used in case of another fire. Older extinguishers may also need to be recharged. Let our team complete the required recharging of your fire extinguishers.

Hydrostatic Testing

Depending on the type of extinguisher, its age, and/or its storage conditions, it is not uncommon that extinguishers require hydrostatic testing. The purpose of this testing is to check for leaks or overall strength of your fire extinguisher’s components in the case of an emergency. Petcosky Fire Protection has the equipment and technical expertise to complete this testing and get your equipment compliant quickly and cost-effectively.

We are proud to offer the sale, installation, inspection, and servicing of the following types of fire extinguishers:

ABC (Dry Chem):

ABC – A monoammonium phosphate-based agent for use on Class A (wood, paper, cloth), Class B (flammable liquids and gases) fires, and Class C (electrical) conductivity.

Dry chemical extinguishers are designed for protection of light and ordinary hazards. These compact and portable extinguishers are suited for both industrial and commercial fire protection needs. Found virtually anywhere a general-purpose fire extinguisher is needed, dry chemical extinguishers are ideal for auto repair shops, electrical equipment rooms, machining operations, material handling vehicles, banks, offices, schools, hotels, warehouses, and many other applications.

BC (Dry Chem):

BC – A sodium bicarbonate-based agent for use on Class B (flammable liquids and gases) fires and Class C (electrical) conductivity

K Class (Dry Chem):

K Class or Purple K is a potassium bicarbonate-based agent which is the most effective ANSUL® agent for knock-down of Class B (flammable liquids and gases) fires, and Class C (electrical) conductivity. K Class fire extinguishers are used for protection from cooking oil and grease fires in commercial kitchens. This extinguisher is designed to complement existing pre-engineered hood systems.

LITH-X (Dry Chem):

ANSUL LITH-X was developed for use on lithium fires, and will also extinguish magnesium, sodium, and potassium fires. LITH-X will contain, and in some cases completely extinguish, fires of zirconium, titanium, and sodium-potassium alloy. LITH-X is a compound of a special graphite base with additives to render it free-flowing so that it may be used in extinguishers. It does not cake or crust, but it excludes air and conducts heat away from the burning mass to extinguish the fire.

MET-L-X (Dry Chem):

ANSUL MET-L-X may be used on sodium, potassium, sodium-potassium alloy, and magnesium fires. In addition, it will control and sometimes extinguish small fires on zirconium and titanium. MET-L-X can be discharged through hose lines and is available in hand-portable, wheeled, stationary, and piped system extinguishers ranging from 30 to 2000 pounds. MET-L-X is a dry powder composed of a salt base plus a polymer for sealing, and other additives to render it free-flowing and cause heat caking or crusting.

Carbon Dioxide:

Carbon dioxide extinguishers provide the power to respond quickly and effectively by design to protect against Class B (flammable liquids and gases) and Class C (energized electrical equipment) fires. These extinguishers are well-suited for indoor use in furnace rooms, printing presses, pump rooms, electrical power panels, and laboratories where winds and drafts do not affect discharge.

Water:

Water extinguishers are designed to extinguish Class A hazards only. Class A hazards such as wood, cloth, trash, and other materials that leave an ash are often found in office environments and industrial locations, as well as warehouse and oxidizing chemical storage areas.
